Wolverines Claw Out Win Over MOB

Whitecourt, AB – The Whitecourt Wolverines (32-18-6) got back to their winning ways on home ice with a 2-1 win over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons (39-13-5) on Friday night.

The Wolverines opened the scoring in the opening three minutes after Spencer Bast finished off a great passing play between himself, Matthew Monk and Ben Evanish.

The Wolverines held their 1-0 until the midway point of the second period when Jaedon Leslie would extend the advantage to two with a shorthanded goal after a great setup by Yannik Bertrand.  The Oil Barons answered right back on the same power play as Domenico Argento blasted home a point shot 16 seconds later.

The Wolverines would protect the 2-1 lead all the way to the final horn thanks to some outstanding goaltending by Xavier Potvin and fantastic penalty killing late in the game.  Jaedon Leslie's goal was his 7th game-winning goal of the season which sets a franchise record.

The Wolverines are back in action Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. as they once again entertain the Oil Barons (39-13-4).
