PLAYOFF GAME RECAP

After clilmbing into third place in the north division, Wolverines would face-off against the sixth place opponent- Fort McMurray Oil Barons, who outranked the Grande Prairie Storm by just one point and former Wolverines bench boss Gord Thibideau. 2020 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs round one is a best of seven series. Game one and two would start in the Scott Safety Centre on March 1 and 2. These two teams met six times during the regular season with Wolverines sweeping the regular season series. Two contests were won with a one goal margin and one game was won in overtime and 2 were won with more than a four point margin. 

The series opened up on a Sunday night with 862 fans in attendance. Joshua Corrow opened the scoring in the second period from Cedric Matte and Ethan Leyer. Fort McMurray Oil Barons tied the game at 13:08 – Michael Hodge from Hunter Lamb and Brendan Stafford which would force overtime. Garin Butler would be the overtime hero at 3:19 from Brayden Labant to give the Wolverines a 1-0 series lead.
