Three different Wolverines have been nominated for a total of four AJHL awards this season.
Caleb Macdonald leads the pack with two nominations; Outstanding Defenceman and MVP, Tanner Komzak has been nominated as the Most Dedicated Player and HC/GM Shawn Martin is up for Coach of the Year.
Shawn Martin is sharing the love with the team.”Collectively I am excited that our hockey club has 4 major award nominations this season, even though they are categorized as individual awards every member of our organization should feel part of these nominations.”
This is Martins 2nd nomination for Coach of the Year.
MacDonald (02) is a first time nominee and is up for the league MVP and Most Outstanding Defenceman in a record setting year for the blueliner. This season MacDonald became the Wolverines all time leader scorer for points in a single season by a defenceman as well as career points by a d-man.
Caleb says he’s extremely grateful for his teammates after hearing of his nominations
“I’m honoured to receive these nominations for MVP and top defenceman. I’d like to thank all my teammates for helping me achieve this goal.”
Komzak (02) is also a first time award nominee after having a career year, jumping from 8 points last season to nearly a PPG this year. He also is sitting just one goal back of the single season record for a Wolverines rearguard.
Tanner Komzak had this to say; “I am honoured to be nominated for this award. It shows that my commitment to both hockey and school have lead me on the right path to where I want to be. None of this would be possible if not for my teammates and coaches.”
More award nominees and winners will be announced at the conclusion of the regular season and into the playoffs.
