Wolverines split for a win and loss at the 12th annual AJHL Showcase

Camrose- Whitecourt Wolverines took to the road Friday, September 28th to attend the 12th annual AJHL showcase. They had special game times both days, with a 4:30pm game vs the Okotoks Oilers on Friday.
The goaltender matchup was #29 Nolan Hildebrand (.838) for Okotoks and #31 Tye Morin (.912) for the Wolverines. Whitecourt Wolverines would get the first goal of the game at 9:40 on the powerplay when Jude Butler tallied his first goal on the season, with assist going to Charles-Olivier Ouimet and Jaedon Leslie. Charles-Olivier Ouimet would follow up with an unassisted goal shortly after at 12:31 to extend the Wolverines lead to two.
Midway through the second period at 12:48, Kaleb Ergang puts the Okotoks Oilers on the board with assists from Blake Wells and Kyle Gordon, cutting the Wolverines lead in half. This was the only goal in the second period.
Wolverines and Oilers exchange chances in the third until 6:22. Whitecourt Wolverines Kurtis Labant takes a shot that deflected behind the net, where Bjorn Robinson, passes up to Brayden Labant. Labant wraps around and find some space to make it 3-1 Whitecourt. Okotoks Oilers, Kaleb Ergang, answer back at 13:56 with his second goal of the night with assist from Marc Pasemko and Luke Farthing making it 3-2 Whitecourt. There wouldn’t be another goal until 19:28 when Mackenzie Harden scores on the powerplay with assists from Charles-Olivier Ouimet and Ben Evanish. The game finished off at 4-2 Whitecourt with the shots being 33-28 Oilers.

Saturday, September 29th Whitecourt Wolverines face-off against the Brooks Bandits with a special 3:30pm game time at the AJHL Showcase. Rookie, #1 Ben Rishaug would take to the net for the Whitecourt Wolverines, while rookie, #30 Pierce Charleson would get the start for Brooks Bandits.
Whitecourt Wolverines would open the scoring at the 9:05 when Mackenzie Harden and Charles-Olivier Ouimet would break out on a on a 2-on-1 rush, on a pass from Tommy Cardinal. Harden found the back of the net behind Charleson to make it 1-0 Whitecourt.  At 11:28, #24 Ben Evanish would get a 5-minute major penalty with a game misconduct and Evanish will not appear in two additional games. Brooks Bandits capitalize on the power play at 13:38 when Vachon’s one-timer gets past Rishaug to tie the game at 1, assist on the goal coming from Nathan Plessis. At 18:31, Christy would make it 2-1 Bandits giving them their first lead of the night in the on the powerplay from Plessis and Vachon.
The Bandits started the second period scoring at 4:24 when Bast scores on a point shot through a screen. Bandits Campbell, then wasted no time on the power play at 5:30 to make it 4-1 Brooks. They would go to the dressing room after 40 minutes with the Bandits leading by 3.
Carson Laport scored his third goal of the season off a rebound at 7:17 with assists going to Monk and Robinson. The Bandits get their fifth and final goal at 9:10 when Gravel scores. Brooks Bandits take the two points with a final score of 5-2.
