Whitecourt, AB – The Whitecourt Wolverines are pleased to announce that they will be remaining in Whitecourt for the 2017/2018 hockey season.

“Whitecourt will definitely have Junior ‘A’ hockey next year,” owner Brent Stark announced in a radio interview during the team’s game in Fort McMurray Friday night. “I love the town of Whitecourt, I’ve always said that the town has given me and my family everything that I have and I want this team to succeed in Whitecourt.”

“The last thing I ever wanted was for this team to leave and with that said I take the onus on myself as the owner, we’ve got work to do off the ice and we’ll start that this summer.”

“I’ve sat down with the Mayor and some of the council members and had some pretty blunt conversations and they have some good points,” added Stark when discussing some changes that team and town need to make. “They’re annoyed on some things and I’m annoyed on some things but it’s nothing that I don’t think we can figure out and move forward and bring a winning team to Whitecourt.”

The Wolverines are currently in their 5th season in Whitecourt and with the announcement that the team will be remaining in the community, the organization will continue to look for local support, sponsorship and season ticket holders as the team works off ice to fulfill their role in the community.

The Wolverines provide media attention on the provincial and national level.  The team ranks 13th in the Canadian Junior Hockey league. There are 131 teams in the CJHL and this is the 2nd year in a row that the Wolverines have been a main stay in the top 20 weekly rankings.

The team is always looking for new and innovative ways to market the team and the town of Whitecourt. The Wolverines promise to continue to put the best possible product on the ice, we vow to continue our community work and provide community initiatives for Whitecourt’s youth.

The Wolverines are looking forward to positive changes in the future including new and returning sponsors, new initiatives and of course we are excited to meet and greet new fans and welcome back our loyal returning fans for the 2017/18 Hockey Season.
