Lloydminster, SK – The Whitecourt Wolverines (30-16-6) had a comeback fall short on Saturday night as they lost 5-3 to the Lloydminster Bobcats (22-28-2).
The team's played a fairly even first period but the Bobcats broke the scoreless tie with just under two minutes to play in the frame as Connor Odelein slipped in a rebound off a point shot.
The Bobcats added to their lead 2:29 into the second period as Kobe Walker deposited a rebound off the end wall into the back of the net on a power play. The Wolverines carried the play for much of the second period but after coming up empty on two power play chances of their own, the Bobcats found the back of the net once again on another power play and again it was Odelein putting in a rebound. Just under three minutes later, Tucker Scantlebury fired home a shot from the blueline to give the Bobcats a 4-0 edge heading into the third period.
The Wolverines got on the comeback trail just over three minutes into the period as Tanner Foster wired a point shot off the post and in. Midway through the third, the Wolverines closed the deficit to two goals as Jake Hobson had a point shot of his own tipped in by Chase Haygarth. Ben Evanish brought the Wolverines to within a goal as he and Spencer Bast combined to create a loose puck behind the Bobcat net that Evanish would walk to the front of the cage with and stuff the puck between the legs of Bobcat's goalie Bailey Brkin. The Wolverines comeback bid would be halted with less than 30 seconds to play as Walker hit the empty net for the Bobcats securing his team a 5-3 victory.
The Wolverines return to home ice on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. as they play host to the Bonnyville Pontiacs (17-27-8)
