Wolverines Drop Third Straight, Fall 2-0 in Spruce Grove

Spruce Grove, AB – The Whitecourt Wolverines (6-4-3) were blanked by the Spruce Grove Saints (8-3-1) 2-0 on Friday night at the Grant Fuhr Arena.

The opening period saw both teams trade scoring chances early but both goaltenders, Tye Morin for the Wolverines and Nolan Kent for the Saints, came up with big saves.  The game remained scoreless after the first 20 minutes.

The Saints got on the board early in the second period as T.J. Lloyd got a point shot on goal off a clean faceoff win, while Morin made the initial save, Josh Harris was on the doorstep to tuck home the rebound.  Through the middle part of the second period, both Ben Evanish and Tyr Thompson had opportunities to get the game tied but Kent robbed them both.  With 3:45 left in the frame, the league’s leading goal scorer Chris Van Os-Shaw was left alone at the side of the Wolverine's net where he took a pass and tapped in his 14th of the year to make it 2-0.

The Wolverines pressed in the third period but their desperation did not yield a goal as for the first time since March of 2016, the Wolverines were held without a goal in a regular season game.

The Wolverines are back in action Saturday night in Drayton Valley at 7:30 p.m. when they take on the Thunder (1-10-0)
