Fort McMurray extended their winning streak to five games by defeating the Whitecourt Wolverines 5-3 Sunday afternoon in front of 888 fans at the Scott Safety Centre.
Whitecourt opened the scoring on the power play when Colten Mayor scored from Ryan Berlin and Clay Spencer. The Wolverines extended their lead to 2-0 when Ryan Berlin scored at 10:38 of the first period from Trace Elson and Colten Mayor. Fort McMurray scored a late first period goal to make the score 2-1.
Fort McMurray scored three unanswered goals in the second period to go up 4-2 before Colten Mayor got his second of the game at 13:06 to make the score 4-3 for Fort McMurray. Trace Elson and Matthew Abt drew assists on the Mayor goal. Fort McMurray scored the only goal in the third period into an empty net to seal the 5-3 victory. Josh Bykowski stopped 22 of 26 shots in goal for Whitecourt.
Whitecourt now goes on the road with games vs. Olds Grizzlys this Friday, vs. Calgary Canucks on Saturday and vs. Calgary Mustangs on Sunday.
