Whitecourt Edged by Bobcats

After opening up a 5-2 lead after two periods, the Whitecourt Wolverines couldn’t hold off the surging Lloydminster Bobcats and let one slip away 6-5 in overtime.

 

Whitecourt got on the board first when Colten Mayor scored at 7:15 of the first period from Matthew Abt and Trevor Martin. Evan Warmington staked Whitecourt to a 2-0 lead when he scored at 7:46 from Ben Fonteyne and Joel Herbert. Lloydminster scored on the power play at 9:31 to make the score 2-1 after one period.

 

Brandon Switzer made the score 3-1 for Whitecourt when he scored at 6:07 of the second period from Colten Mayor. Lloydminster scored at 7:05 before Colten Mayor got his second of the game on the power play at 9:57. Joel Kocur put Whitecourt up 5-2 when he scored at 10:25 from Ryan Berlin and Tyson Helgesen.

 

There was no more scoring in this game for Whitecourt, as Lloydminster controlled the third period and scored three goals to send the game into overtime where Tanner Dunkle put the game away for Lloydminster with his goal at 0:50. Colten Mayor registered three points in the game for Whitecourt. Trevor Martin took the loss in goal for the Wolverines, stopping 24 of 30 shots.

 

Whitecourt is next in action when they host the Olds Grizzlys this Saturday in a 7:00 pm start and the Canmore Eagles on Sunday in a 2:30 pm start at the Scott Safety Centre.
