Wolverines Sweep Away Bobcats

Lloydminster, SK – The Whitecourt Wolverines completed their first round, three game, sweep of the Lloydminster Bobcats on Sunday with a 3-1 win.

The Wolverines got on the board early after Ben Evanish swept home a rebound in front of Bobcat goalie Pierce Diamond following a Tanner Foster point shot less than two minutes into the game.  The goal was the 5th power play goal for the Wolverines in the series.  Despite holding a 16-8 shot advantage in the period, the Wolverines led by just one goal heading into the second period.

The Bobcats would get the game tied 6:22 into the middle frame as Braydon Jenkins got a power play goal.  Less than ten minutes later the Wolverines gained back their lead as Brayden Labant sped into the right-wing circle and snapped off a quick shot that found a hole on the short-side.

The Bobcats would press for an equalizer in the third period but the Wolverines would limit their scoring chances allowing just six shots against that Xavier Potvin would stop.  In the final minute, captain Ryan Grant put the game away with an empty net goal.

The Wolverines move on to face the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in a North Division Semi-Final series which begins Friday night in Fort McMurray at 7:30 p.m.
