Wolverines Drop Second Straight to Spruce Grove

Spruce Grove, AB – The Whitecourt Wolverines (0-1-1) were stymied on Saturday night in Spruce Grove, falling 3-1 to the Saints (2-0-0)

The Saints got on the board early as Logan Ganie deposited a back-door pass on a man-advantage midway through the opening period.  Less than four minutes later they would extend their lead to two when Nick Leyer re-directed home a pass from Ganie.

The second period saw the Saints press to extend their lead early but some fine goaltending by Xavier Potvin kept the Wolverine down just two goals.  Nearing the midway point of the second period the Wolverines found themselves on a power play and they would take advantage when Cody Laskosky slipped a bodycheck entering the Saints zone and then buried a rebound generated off a Liam Motley shot.

Held to just five shots on goal through forty minutes of play, the Wolverines came to life in the third period generating a number of high-quality scoring chances but could not find the back of the net as they were thwarted by goaltender Nolan Kent and a couple of goal posts.  In the final moments, Chris Van Os-Shaw put the game away after finishing off a beautiful passing play between himself and Josh Harris.

The Wolverines are back on home ice on Tuesday night when they host the Drayton Valley Thunder at 7:30 p.m.  Purchase your tickets online here.
