Home and Home with Spruce Grove Saints December 20&21, R&R Memorial Game
Whitecourt, AB ? The Whitecourt Wolverines win a tight-checking 3-1 affair to the Spruce Grove Saints on Saturday night. The night itself, however, belonged to Ryder and Radek. The game was played in honor of the late sons of Tracy Stark and Brent Stark, Ryder and Radek. The day began with members of our community painting messages to the boys on the ice of love and in support to Brent and Tracy and their families. Those messages were sealed into the ice and stayed throughout course of the game. This is the final year that we will be sealing messages into the ice prior to the R&R Memorial Game.
Prior to the game Abigail and Jamie lead with a rendition of Tenille Townes song ?Jersey on the Wall.” A tribute video created by Ryan Steinke for Ryder and Radek that featured the places the #rnrseetheworld stickers are around the world with a message from Tracy. During the second intermission, Amanda Wilson performed a beautiful figure skate routine in the boy?s honor. Amanda is a family friend who figure skates with the Whitecourt Skating Club and also trains with the St Albert Skating Centre. Amanda competes at the STAR 6 and 7 Free Skate Levels as well as the STAR 9 Artistic Level. Tonight Amanda was going to skate her STAR 7 short program that was choreographed to preform at this game. When Amanda came to write her message on the ice, she glanced over to see Tracy and Brent?s message ?You are my reason?. A sign from above that she had to skate to her STAR 6 long program that was not intentionally choreographed for the game.
The Wolverines unveil a brand new third jersey with the R&R symbol incorporated into the team?s logo.
Spruce Grove Saints would open the scoring early at 2:55 on the power play from Jordan Biro and assisted by Ryan Conroy. Wolverines Ethan Leyer would tie the game up at 6:05 on the power play. Bryce Osepchuk added a second goal two minutes later from Ethan Leyer and Kaleb Ergang,his second goal in his second game as a Wolverine. Anderson would add a third goal for the Wolverines at 14:35 in the 3rd for a 3-1 final. Wolverines get their first win of the season against the Saints.
