The Whitecourt Wolverines swept weekend games against the Olds Grizzlys and Canmore Eagles to take their season record to 11 wins, 5 losses and 2 overtime losses in 18 games and good for 24 points in the standings.
After Olds scored the only two goals of the first period, Whitecourt came alive in the second period. Colten Mayor scored on the power play at 1:39 with assists to Matthew Abt and Joel Herbert. Evan Warmington evened the score at 8:41 with his power play marker from Brandon Switzer and Colten Mayor. Jordan Davies got the winner at 1:48 of the third period with assists to Trace Elson and Ryan Berlin. Tanner Kovacs picked up the win in goal for Whitecourt, stopping 30 of 32 shots.
Whitecourt came from behind again against Canmore to gain a 3-2 victory. Canmore scored first at 8:27 of the first period, but it was all Whitecourt from that point. Ryan Berlin scored at 11:09 of the first period on the power play with the assist to Joel Kocur. Mitch Owsley put Whitecourt ahead 2-1 with his goal at 15:45 from Brandon Switzer and Dalton Olsen. Clay Spencer increased the Wolverines lead to 3-1 when he scored at 19:03 from Brandon Switzer. Canmore scored in the second period, but couldn’t get any closer. Tanner Kovacs stopped 25 of 27 shots in goal for Whitecourt to pick up the win.
Whitecourt is next in action this Friday when they travel to Bonnyville to take on the Pontiacs in a 7:00 pm start.
