WOLVERINES SHUTOUT BOBCATS, SPLIT HOME & HOME

GAME RECAP:

There is no place like home as the Whitecourt Wolverines and Lloyminster Bobcats split their home and home series. The Bobcats took the first game of the home and home on Saturday in Lloydminster 5-3 but on this night it was all Wolverines as they defeated the Cats by a score of 4-0.

Trace Elson opened the scoring for the Wolverines, with his 2nd goal since returning from the Vancouver Giants of the WHL, and 15th of the season at the 2:06 mark of the first period. The energy would not go away as just :08 seconds later Colten Mayor with his team leading 22nd of the season, would ignite the crowd even more at the Scott Safety Centre and the Wolverines wouldn’t look back from there.

The Wolverines would fail to capitalize on their two Power Plays in the first period but that would not kill the momentum going into the second frame.

Brandon Switzer would make it 3-0 5:38 into the second period. He did it in style, awing the entire Scott Safety Centre as he came with remarkable speed through the neutral Zone , splitting the Bobcat defence, cutting to the middle and slipping the puck to his back hand and beating Devin Green for his 11th of the season.

Recently acquired Gianni Mangone would then do what he does best as the Wolverines would strike on the Power Play to make it 4-0 on Mangone’s 11th Power Play goal and 14th of the season. That would be all the scoring the team would need going into the 3rd period.

The 3rd period showed no scoring, however it would be Mac Engle who showed that he didn’t want to be left off the score sheet. He would stop all 10 shots he faced in the 3rd and all 22 shots in the game as Engle would go onto earn his 2nd Shutout as a Wolverine.
