The Whitecourt Wolverines travelled to Fort McMurray for a double header against the Oil Barons on Nov 20th & 21st. The weekend turned out to be very successful with a shootout win on Friday night and a 7-4 win on Saturday. Not only were the Wolverines able to pick up four much needed points but the Saturday win saw the franchise and Head Coach, Joey Bouchard pick up their 100th win in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
There is a tight race in the Viterra AJHL North Division standings with only 1 point separating the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams. The Wolverines have held onto third place for the past few weeks and have had a few honourable mentions on the Pointstreak CJHL Top 20 Weekly rankings. After this past weekend’s wins they were able to crack the Top 20 list for the first time this season. The Wolverines are ranked, this week, at number 16 of the top 20 teams in the Canadian Junior Hockey League. The CJHL is made up of 10 Junior A hockey leagues, which makes up 131 Junior A hockey teams in Canada.
The Wolverines will play their next two games in a home and home stand against the Sherwood Park Crusaders. These two games promise to be action packed as the Crusaders are only 1 point behind the Wolverines in the standings. The first game will take place in Sherwood Park on Wednesday, Nov 25th @ 7Pm and the second game will take place in Whitecourt on Friday, Nov 27th @ 7:30PM.
