Wolverines Go Two for Two

The Whitecourt Wolverines went two for two on their recent trip down South, ending a losing streak and starting a new winning streak.

 

Whitecourt visited the Canmore Eagles on Friday and came away with a 5-1 victory. Whitecourt opened the scoring at 19:45 of the first period when Mitch Owsley scored from Joel Kocur.  Canmore got their only goal of the game at 4:17 of the second period and then Whitecourt took over from there. Mitch Owsley notched his second goal of the game at 7:23 from Matthew Abt and Colten Mayor and then scored the natural hat-trick at 8:15 from Joel Kocur. Joel Herbert made the score 4-1 at 9:33 from Evan Warmington and Brodyn Nielsen capped off the Whitecourt scoring with a short-handed goal at 4:10 of the third period from Colten Mayor. Tanner Kovacs got the win in goal for Whitecourt, stopping 21 of 22 shots on goal.

 

Saturday saw the Wolverines in Drumheller where they walked away with a hard fought 3-2 overtime victory over the Dragons. After Drumheller took an early 2-0 lead in the first period, Matthew Abt got the Wolverines on the board with his goal at 14:41 of the first from Mitch Owsley and Evan Warmington. Joel Kocur knotted the score at two at 9:31 of the second period when he scored with the assist to Mitch Owsley. Colten Mayor was the overtime hero with his goal at 3:51 of the first overtime period from Ryan Berlin and Jordan Davies. Tanner Kovacs picked up the win in goal for Whitecourt, stopping 29 of 31 shots.

 

Next action for Whitecourt comes at home on Tuesday, November 12 when they take on the Bonnyville Pontiacs in a 7:00 pm start at the Scott Safety Centre.
