Wolverines Extend Streak

The Whitecourt Wolverines extended their winning streak to four games with a 5-3 victory over the Storm in Grande Prairie on Sunday.

 

Clay Spencer opened the scoring for Whitecourt early with a goal at 1:20 of the first period from Joel Herbert and Mitch Owsley.  Grande Prairie scored two goals early in the second period to take a 2-1 lead before Dalton Olsen tied the score at 9:07 with assists to James Vermeulen and Ryan Berlin. Whitecourt scored again at 13:53 with Brodyn Nielsen’s goal from Jaden Svienson and Jacob Schofield, staking Whitecourt to a 3-2 lead. Clay Spencer got his second goal of the game at 1:45 of the third period from Joel Herbert and Evan Warmington to put the Wolverines up 4-2. Grande Prairie scored at 9:55 to get them closer, but Whitecourt’s Mitch Owsley put the game out of reach with his goal at 11:06 from Trace Elson, making the score 5-3 and a two goal lead for Whitecourt that would last until the final buzzer. Tanner Kovacs stopped 27 of 30 shots in goal for Whitecourt to get the victory.

 

Whitecourt next sees action this Friday night when they host the Spruce Grove Saints in a 7:00 pm start at the Scott Safety Centre.
