Wolverines Drop Two in Fort McMurray

The Whitecourt Wolverines dropped two games in Fort McMurray over the weekend, 3-1 on Friday night and 6-3 on Saturday night.

 

In Friday night’s game, Fort McMurray scored the only goals of the first and second periods to take a 2-0 lead into the third period. Sam Lawson scored for Whitecourt at 13:30 from Ryan Berlin and Colten Mayor.  Fort McMurray scored a late goal to make the final 3-1. Mac Engel stopped 27 0f 30 shots on goal for Whitecourt to absorb the loss.

 

Saturday night’s game saw Fort McMurray jump out to an early 1-0 lead, but Whitecourt scored three unanswered first period goals to take a 3-1 lead into the second period. Clay Spencer scored on the power play at 3:13 from Colten Mayor and Sam Lawson. Sam Lawson scored at 6:45 from Jordan Davies and then Joel Herbert extended the Whitecourt lead with his goal at 15:04 from Ben Fonteyne and Jacob Schofield. Fort McMurray scored two goals in the second period and three in the third to win the game 6-3. Mac Engel stopped 38 of 43 shots on goal to absorb the loss for Whitecourt.

 

Next action for Whitecourt comes on the road on Wednesday, November 27 vs. Lloydminster Bobcats in a 7:30 pm start.
