Wolverines drop back to back at home to Bobcats

RECAP:

The Whitecourt Wolverines and Lloydminster Bobcats wrapped up there season series last night , with the Wolverines dropping Friday & Saturday night action in Whitecourt.

Friday night’s action saw Lloydminster defeat Whitecourt 3-1 in front of 997 fans on Stollery night at the Scott Safety Centre. Special teams would be the deciding factor in this one, as the Bobcats would open the scoring on a short-handed goal from Austin McDonald at the 2:33 mark of the first period. The Bobcats wouldn’t stop there as they would strike on the Power Play on a marker from Braden Crone who beat Wolverines Goaltender Mac Engle.

The Wolverines would strike back on scramble that saw Colten Mayor net his 28th goal of the season. That goal would trigger fans at the Scott Safety Center to toss well over 100 teddy bears onto the ice as the Wolverines held their first annual Teddy Bear toss night.

Both teams battled through a scoreless second period along with the majority of the third period before the Wolverines would haul Mac Engle in the last minute of play to create a 6 on 4. The Bobcats sustained pressure from the Wolverines until a bad bounce caused the Wolverines to lose control of the puck. Bobcats Tanner Dunkle would capitalize and put it into the empty net for the final goal and second short-handed goal of the game and that would lead the Bobcats to victory.

Shots for the game were even at 24 apiece.

The Wolverines would finish 0/6 on the PP while the Bobcats finished 1/3.

Saturday night action saw the Bobcats return to the Scott Safety Centre for the final regular season meeting between both clubs. Special teams would once again play a deciding factor in this game.

The Wolverines would come out of the gate hard however both teams would not be able to find the back of the net in the first period.

The second period would see Bobcats Grant Baker open the scoring on the Power Play at the 17:08 mark, beating a sprawling Riley Corbin who was making his 5th start of the season for the Wolverines.

The Bobcats would add fuel to the fire capitalizing on yet another Power Play goal as Taylor Mulder would take the wind out of the sails of the Wolverines at the 11 minute mark of the 3rd period.
Mulder’s goal would seal the deal for the Bobcats as they went on to take home a 2-0 Victory and take the season series.

Shots for the game were 24-20 in favour of Lloydminster.

The Wolverines would finish 0/4 on the Power Play while the Bobcats finished 2/7.

The Wolverines return to action on a Monday with a matinee matchup as they visit the league leading Spruce Grove Saints. Game time is at 2pm.
