Wolverines Captain Mahan commits to Div I Program

Wolverines Captain Tyler Mahan has accepted a scholarship to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to play for the Tigers.

The Tigers play in the Atlantic Hockey Conference and have participated three times in the NCAA National Tournament most recently in 2016.

The Calgary, AB product has developed into one of the premier power forwards in the AJHL over the last three years. This season he has compiled 10 points in the first 8 games following last season’s abbreviated year where he put up 7 points in 9 games.

The Tigers are led by veteran coaches Wayne Wilson and Brian Hills and Tyler will be the 4th Wolverine to join the Tigers program.

“I cannot think of a better fit for Tyler then to join the Tigers, he will be a great addition to their program,” stated Wolverines Head Coach Shawn Martin.

“Tyler has developed into the consummate Wolverine and with no slight to anyone else I can honestly say he has worked harder than any other player in my time here to earn a Division I scholarship,” added Martin.

Tyler had this to say about his commitment, “I am honoured to be part of the Whitecourt Wolverines for the past three years and want to sincerely thank my coaches, teammates, staff, billet parents as well as the great fans for all the support they have given me.”

Tyler added, “Also, I would like to thank the former and current owners for their commitment to the hockey team.   I will always be grateful for my time in Whitecourt with the Wolverines.”

On behalf of the Wolverines organization, we want to congratulate Tyler and his family on this achievement and wish him all the best in his last season as a Wolverine.
