Whitecourt, AB – The Whitecourt Wolverines (18-5-3) got back in the win column Saturday night by blanking the Camrose Kodiaks (7-12-5) 1-0 at the Scott Safety Centre.
The night began with a ceremonial puck drop by Jody Davidson of Fox Creek who is the co-founder, along with her husband Mike, of the Hockey Hearts Foundation which helped build and maintain a school in Arusha, Tanzania. For more info on their cause click here.
Once the game got underway, the teams skated to a scoreless first period as both goaltenders, Tye Morin for the Wolverines and Griffin Bowerman of the Kodiaks, were both exceptional in the first 20 minutes and would continue to be that through the remaining 40.
The Wolverines opened the scoring in the second period as just 2:21 in Liam Motley busted down the right wing on a three-on-two rush, made a move around a defender and snuck a short-side shot past Bowerman. The teams played a back and forth period but Motley’s goal would stand-up as the only offence in the middle stanza.
Neither side would find the back of the net in the third period despite both having several grade-a scoring chances but in the end, it was a goaltending duel that Morin was able to come out on top of helping the Wolverines to their second shutout victory of the season and personally the first of his AJHL career.
