Wolverines Acquire Tyr Thompson

Whitecourt, AB – The Whitecourt Wolverines have acquired 1998-born forward Tyr Thompson from the Olds Grizzlys in exchange for 1997-born forward Estian Coetzee and future considerations.

Thompson, a Sherwood Park, Alberta native, is entering his third season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.  In 116 career games he has recorded 36 goals and 48 assists to go along with 95 penalty minutes.  This past season, Thompson set career highs in assists and points with 32 helpers and 49 points in 60 games.

He added two goals and three assists in seven playoff games this past Spring.

Thompson is committed to playing at the University of Alabama-Huntsville at the conclusion of his junior hockey career.

He is the son of Whitecourt native Rocky Thompson who is currently the head coach of the Las Vegas Golden Knight’s American Hockey League affiliate, Chicago Wolves.

Coetzee was acquired last season in a trade from the Camrose Kodiaks, in 26 games as a Wolverine he scored two goals and eight assists while adding three more goals in the post-season as he dressed in all 20 playoff games.
