Wolverine Alumni Wins NCAA Conference Championship

Former Whitecourt Wolverine Matthew Abt and the RIT Tigers won the NCAA Atlantic Hockey Championship on Saturday, March 21st.

In the championship game Abt picked up his second career NCAA goal when he opened the scoring for the Tigers enroute to a 5-1 victory over the Mercyhurst Lakers.

The win means the RIT Tigers have qualified for the NCAA tournament for just the second time in school history, and first time since 2010.  The Tigers will meet the Minnesota State University Mavericks in their first round matchup in Cincinnati, Ohio this Saturday, March 28th, at 2pm MST.

For his efforts in the NCAA Atlantic Championship tournament, Abt was named to the all-tournament team.

In his freshmen year with the RIT Tigers, the former Wolverines MVP recorded 2 goals, 7 assists and was a +2 in 31 games played.

The Whitecourt Wolverines would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Matthew Abt and the RIT hockey program for winning the 2015 NCAA Atlantic Hockey Championship.
