Winning Streak Extended to Three

The Whitecourt Wolverines extended their current winning streak to three games with a hard fought 6-4 victory over the Bonnyville Pontiacs in Bonnyville Friday night.

 

Whitecourt got on the board first in this contest when Mitch Owsley scored at 8:53 of the first period from Joel Kocur and Matt McNair. The Wolverines then scored on the power play at 11:14 with Trace Elson getting the marker from James Vermeulen and Luke Fenske. Bonnyville scored shorthanded at 17:46 of the first period to make the score 2-1 in favour of Whitecourt.

 

Trace Elson extended the Wolverines lead when he scored his second of the game from Ryan Berlin and Luke Fenske at 8:43 of the second period. A power play goal at 10:11 by Ryan Berlin from Trace Elson and Joel Kocur gave Whitecourt a comfortable 4-1 lead. Bonnyville scored on the power play at 12:51 before Brodyn Nielsen scored at 15:51 for the Wolverines with the assist going to Ryan Berlin. Bonnyville scored a late second period goal to make the score 5-3 for Whitecourt heading into the third period.

 

Whitecourt opened up a 6-3 lead when Brandon Switzer scored at 7:22 from Mitch Owsley. Bonnyville scored a late goal to make the final 6-4. Tanner Kovacs stopped 41 of 45 shots on goal to get the win for Whitecourt.

 

The Wolverines are next in action on Friday, November 1 when they play host to the Drumheller Dragons in a 7:00 pm start and the Camrose Kodiaks on Saturday, November 2 in a 7:00 pm start at the Scott Safety Centre.
