The Whitecourt Wolverines rolled into Drayton Valley Sunday afternoon and came away with a 5-2 victory.
Whitecourt opened the scoring at 4:08 of the first period when Colten Mayor scored from Mitch Owsley and Brandon Switzer. Trace Elson then scored at 17:14 from Ryan Berlin and James Vermeulen to make it 2-0.
Drayton Valley got on the board with a power play goal at 3:10 of the second before Joel Herbert put Whitecourt up 3-1 at 4:22 with the assist going to Evan Warmington. Ryan Berlin gave Whitecourt a comfortable 4-1 lead when he scored on the power play at 7:10 of the second with the assist to Colten Mayor. Drayton Valley got another power play at 11:44 to edge the Thunder closer at 4-2.
Whitecourt rounded out the scoring at 13:35 of the third period when Evan Warmington scored from Joel Herbert and Clay Spencer. Tanner Kovacs stopped 25 of 27 shots in goal for Whitecourt.
Next action for Whitecourt features back to back home games vs. Sherwood Park on Thursday, October 3 (7:00 pm) and Friday, October 4 (7:00 pm) vs. Bonnyville Pontiacs.
