GAME RECAP:
The Wolverines and Canucks clashed on a cold night in Whitecourt for the first and only time this season.
The Wolverines would answer first when Brodyn Nielsen received a cross zone pass from Ryan Berlin to slip it passed Colin Cooper for his 5th of the season. Both teams would exchange scoring chances before Matt Rypien would fool the Wolverine defence and sneak one behind Riley Corbin to tie the game with just 13 seconds remaining in the 1st period.
Both teams came out of the gate strong to start the second, with teams exchanging penalty’s before Derek Thorogood would put one past Corbin to take their only lead of the game. Joel Herbert then evened the contest with his 11th of the season with what some would have called the Highlight of the night at the Scott Safety Centre.
The Wolverines wouldn’t look back from there in the 3rd as Berlin notched his 17th , Mayor his team leading 20th and Trace Elson would seal the deal by adding an empty net goal for his 14th of the season and 1st since returning from the Vancouver Giants of the WHL.
Riley Corbin was stellar in goal stopping 33 of 35 shots, 16 of those coming in the first period.
The Wolverines pull to 19-20-2 (40 Points) in a very tight North Division in which only 5 points separate 3rd and 6th place.
