MacDonald Nominated for CJHL top Defenceman

The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Friday the names of the five individuals who have been named finalists for its Top Defenceman Award as part of competition during the course of the 2022-23 campaign. Each of the finalists were determined through a voting process completed by the CJHL’s nine-member leagues, for their respective efforts during the course of the regular season.

Whitecourt Wolverines Defenceman Caleb MacDonald (02) has been nominated as the CJHL’s top Defenceman.

MacDonald lead the Wolverines in scoring this year and was the only blueliner to do so in the AJHL, finishing with 9 goals and 59 points. MacDonald also set the Wolverines record for all time points by a defenceman and the single season point and assist record for Wolverines rearguards.

To encapsulate his masterful season MacDonald was nominated for the AJHL’s MVP and top Defenceman, winning the latter. MacDonald has graduated from the Wolverines this season and will play for Alaska Fairbanks (NCAA Div 1) next season.

Other nominees include:

  • Trent Sambrook, Winkler Flyers – MJHL
  • Ed McNeill, Summerside Western Capitals – MHL
  • Alex Little, Powasson Voodoos – NOJHL
  • Cooper Bertrand, Toronto Jr. Canadiens, OJHL
