The Wolverines woke up with some great news on February 16th as the AJHL released the finalists for League Awards and four members of the team found their names on the list.
Justin Young was recognized in the Most Valuable Player category and we couldn't be more pleased that Young is getting recognized for the hard work that he's dedicated to the team not only this year but for the past three years. Young was recognized in Decemeber of this season as the Alberta Ford Dealers Player of the Month.
Morgan Messenger finds himself in a class of Most Dedicated and that couldn't be more true. As a 2nd time Wolverine, Messenger couldn't be a more dedicated leader on this team and in the league. We're extremely happy that Messenger is getting recognized for his dedication to the sport of hockey and to the Wolverines.
Pierce Diamond joins 4 others on the list of Top Goaltenders! Diamond joined the Wolverines organization this season and has been strong and steady in the net for our team. He's recorded 5 shut outs on the season, blowing past the franchise record of 2. Diamond was named Defensive Player of the Week twice this season and the Wolverines are delighted that Diamond is getting recognized for his outstanding play in the League.
Of course it wouldn't be fitting to have league award nominees without Coach Gord Thibodeau being on the list. Thibodeau has won Coach of the year on two previous occasions with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons and the Wolverines are very proud to have him nominated in just his first year with our team. Coach Thibodeau broke the record for AJHL all-time wins in February and he is having a very successful first season with the Wolverines Organization. We are extremely proud and feel it's well deserved that Coach T is on the list for Coach of the Year nominees.
