Whitecourt Wolverines forward Trace Elson has been named to Team Canada West and will compete in the 2013 World Junior A Challenge in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, November 4-10. Elson currently leads the Alberta Junior Hockey League in scoring with 30 points in 19 games.
The Canada West roster is made up of two goaltenders, seven defensemen and 13 forwards. Eleven players on the roster are from the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Canada West will play in Group B in the competition along with the Czech Republic and Switzerland, while Canada East, Russia and the USA will comprise Group A. All preliminary round games, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the bronze medal game will be webcast through www.hockeycanada.ca. The gold medal game on Sunday, November 10 will be shown nationally on TSN/RDS.
“It’s an honour to get a chance to play for Team Canada West. I’m excited to play at this prestigious tournament and I’m going to try to have some fun and help our team secure the gold medal,” said Elson.
