The Sherwood Park Crusaders came into Whitecourt Thursday night and left with a 5-3 victory over the Wolverines. Sherwood Park never trailed in this game, as they opened the scoring early at 0:53 of the first period. Matthew Abt tied the score at one with his goal at 1:48 from Joel Herbert and Evan Warmington. Sherwood Park scored two more in the first period before Sam Lawson scored a late power play goal at 19:40 to draw Whitecourt closer at 3-2. Matthew Abt and Colten Mayor drew the assists on the Lawson goal. Sherwood Park got a power play goal of their own at 6:14 of the second before Colten Mayor scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 11:14 of the second period. Sherwood Park closed out the scoring with another power play goal at 9:39 of the third period. Mac Engel took the loss in goal for Whitecourt, stopping 22 of 27 shots on goal. Next action for Whitecourt comes on the road this weekend with games Saturday and Sunday in Grande Prairie.
