RBC & AJHL Community Ambassador Program

On November 9th, 2018 Spencer Augot was chosen to be Whitecourt Wolverines representative for the AJHL and RBC Community Ambassador.

(Sharon Shannon, Manager of Family Community Support Service and Spencer Augot)

On Thursday, November 1, Spencer represented the Wolverines JR A Hockey Club in his role as RBC Community Ambassador by volunteering at the 14th Annual Family Violence Candlelight Vigil. November is Family Violence Awareness month in the Province of Alberta and this vigil was one of several events organized by the Whitecourt Family Violence Initiative to bring awareness to family violence issues in our community and in the province.

Below is a general overview of FCSS (Family and Community Support Services) and a bit about the Mom2Mom program that the AJHL Community Ambassador donation will support.

Family and Community Support Services works to enhance the social well-being of individuals, families, and the community through prevention. FCSS uses a “people helping people to help themselves” approach by offering
or partnering with programs and services at the community level. The RBC donation being made on behalf of Spencer will help support a Mom2Mom program, a weekly Early Childhood Development initiative that provides supports and information to vulnerable community families with children 6 and under.

Sixteen members of your Whitecourt Wolverines attended this year's Breakfast with the Guys (BWTG) hosted by Whitecourt Family Violence Initiative at the Travelodge Conference Center and Suites Whitecourt on October 24. BWTG is an event to keep the conversation going around what men can do to help end gender/domestic-based violence over breakfast.

What is the RBC and AJHL Community Ambassador Program?

"RBC Royal Bank and the Alberta Junior Hockey League are very proud to announce the launch of a new initiative in support of local players and their communities. The RBC & AJHL Community Ambassador Program provides players with the opportunity to enhance skill sets for their future beyond their hockey career, an opportunity to engage with their communities and provide some much-needed funding to support community driven programs.
Teams nominate a RBC & AJHL Community Ambassador from their roster who they feel shows a keen interest in volunteerism, a passion for their community and will inspire their team members to contribute to the community in meaningful ways.  A $1,000 donation will be made from RBC on behalf of the selected ambassador in support of a Family and Community Support Services program in their community.
The RBC & AJHL Community Ambassadors are encouraged to continue their great work in the community by partnering with RBC branch staff and volunteer their time to a registered charity of their choice. The charity is then eligible for an additional $1,000 donation on behalf of RBC.
As part of this partnership, RBC is also offering financial literacy sessions to all AJHL players to help them make smart everyday financial decisions and work towards achieving their goals.
“AJHL and RBC recognize the importance of supporting players both on and off the ice,” says Ryan Bartoshyk, Commissioner, Alberta Junior Hockey League. “We’re confident the RBC & AJHL Community Ambassador Program will shine a spotlight on the important role these players play in their communities and provide them with valuable skills for their futures.”
RBC is proud to continue their support of amateur sport in communities across Canada. They’ve been partnered with AJHL for over 20 years and look forward to hosting the next RBC Royal Bank Game Nights across Alberta." ( article at )
